Hong Kong is a veritable explosion of color, sound, and culture. This former British Colony that was returned to China in 1997 is now one of the busiest and fastest-growing cities in the world. Hong Kong is a perfect destination for travelers who want to experience the hustle and bustle of a modern city, while also getting a healthy dose of local culture. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the best things to see and do in Hong Kong, as well as some of the unique highlights that make it such an exciting destination to visit.
Here are the top places I pick that made my Hong Kong trip memorable! I will give you details and story of what i experience all throughout my trip, so you can have an idea of what to expect when you’re here.
Tian Tan Buddha
I think this place is one of the highlight of my Hong Kong trip. From discovering where it’s located and how they built it, is full of history. Tian Tan Buddha was erected to mark the harmonious relationship between man and nature, and is associated with the teachings of Buddhism. Built in 1993, it took seven years to construct and has since attracted thousands of devotees and tourists alike. The Buddha’s right hand is raised while its left rests on his lap – signifying the removal of evil from this world. The Buddha is adorned by a lotus flower, the symbol of purity and enlightenment.
It is a fulfillment for me to see it knowing i need to do 268 steps (not included the other spots that u can visit around it lol). Something you need to know about me is that whenever i’m doing climbing or doing a hundreds of steps to see something on the top…. i always make a wish. I don’t know but it’s just my thing. Do you guys do that too? Tell me in the comment section please.
Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car
If you think only the Tian Tan Buddha is the reason to be excited about then your’e wrong! Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car is gonna give you that adrenaline rush. To those people thats scared of height “be ready” its time to conquer your fears. This is an aerial view of the surrounding areas and offers a bird’s eye view of the Buddha. Believe me “you must do this“!. It’s fun! The view from outside is worth the ride.
Po Lin Monastery
The Po Lin Monastery is another attraction located near the Tian Tan Buddha. Home to towering incense coils, it is one of the most popular Buddhist monasteries in Hong Kong. Inside, you will be hypnotized by the smell of incense and sacred ambiance of prayer halls, adorned with thousand-year-old Buddha statues and sloppy golden roofs. The peaceful surroundings—that silence the modern world for a while—will be more than enough to get a peaceful mind.
Chilin Nunnery and Nan Lian Gardens
I would say that this is one of the picture perfect place. In this place you will see a scenery of a tall buildings, falls, ponds ,temples and gardens in one picture. The Chilin Nunnery is a serene Buddhist temple complex that dates back to the 1930s and offers a peaceful escape from the fast pace of the city. The nunnery has a traditional Tang dynasty style of architecture and boasts numerous halls, courtyards, and pavilions that are constructed entirely of wood without the use of a single nail. Nan Lian Gardens is an exquisitely landscaped park that covers an area of over 8 hectares. The park boasts a classic Chinese garden design with elements such as artificial mountains, waterfalls, and rock gardens, all of which are meant to represent the Chinese classic landscape paintings. The park also features a landscaped pond filled with Koi fish and lotus flowers, and a traditional tea house where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea and take in the stunning natural scenery. Sight seeing in this area is my favorite!
Hong Kong Disneyland
This is my first ever Disneyland experience and definitely not the last. Visiting this place made me feel like I’m a little kid again. I remember I almost cried when i finally saw a The Disneyland Resort Line, it is a heavy rail MTR line connecting Sunny Bay to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Arriving and seeing the iconic Mickey Mouse logo is unforgettable and felt magical. I enjoy every bits of it rides, food, attractions, shops, shows and many more (i can’t even mentioned everything). From the classic Main Street U.S.A to the futuristic Tomorrowland, each area is filled with exciting rides, attractions, and entertainment. Don’t miss out on the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle; it marks the centerpiece of the park and is perfect for taking photographs.
Hong Kong Disneyland isn’t just for the kids, it’s also the perfect destination for families and group outings. Guests can enjoy an abundance of amusement rides such as the Big Grizzly Mountain Coaster, Hyperspace Mountain, and Space Mountain. There are many other attractions, including the Jungle River Cruise, It’s a Small World, and Mickey’s Philharmagic. The Golden Mickeys, a Broadway-style musical spectacular inspired by Disney animated features, is a fantastic show that should also be on your list.
Walking will definitely the main thing and the loooonnng line of waiting, so i hope everyone have their patience with them in a bag lol but other than that the whole experience is worth your time and money. You will experience a lot but the main reason why Disneyland is Disneyland is because of the shows that they do at night together with the amazing fireworks so make sure you stay till the end for you to see.
By the way one of the saddest moment i experience is when i didn’t get to see the Castle which represent the name itself 🙁 because the time i visited its under construction (what are the odds). But thats life , I’m sure its built by now!.
Victoria Peak
Victoria Peak is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city. Known locally as simply “The Peak,” this area offers breathtaking views of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline and the surrounding natural beauty of the island. Victoria Peak is a must-see destination for those who want to experience the best of what Hong Kong has to offer. One of the famous way to get to to the top is the Peak Tram, it’s an exciting ride going up while having the scenic view of Victoria Peak. You can take a bus or taxi as well. For me the tram is the best way to do it.
Once you arrive at Victoria Peak, you’ll be greeted by the stunning Peak Tower, which houses a range of entertainment, dining, and shopping options. You can enjoy sumptuous meals at one of the many restaurants or cafes while taking in the stunning views. There’s also an observation deck at the Peak Tower that offers panoramic views of the city.
At the Peak Tower, you’ll find The Sky Terrace 428, which is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong. This observation deck offers unparalleled 360-degree views of the city and is a popular destination for tourists and photographers. With its floor-to-ceiling glass walls, you can enjoy the view even on rainy days.
If you’re looking for a more relaxing experience, you can explore the beautiful Victoria Peak Gardens. These gardens are located adjacent to the Peak Tower and offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can stroll around the various sections of the garden, admire the flowers, and take in the stunning views of the city.
Besides being a great daytime destination, Victoria Peak is also a popular spot for nightlife. After sunset, the city skyline is illuminated with lights, and the view from Victoria Peak becomes even more incredible. At night, you can enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the city lights or simply enjoy a drink at one of the many bars.
