One of the best things about traveling is the opportunity to try new food and experience different flavors. Every country and region has its own unique cuisine, and it’s impossible not to feel excited about sampling all the delicious goodies out there. From spicy curries to succulent steaks, there’s something to tantalize everyone’s taste buds. In this blog post, we’re going on a journey of flavors and delights to discover some of the best food around the globe.
Asia
We’ll start our culinary journey in Asia, a continent that’s famous for its rich, flavorful foods. Thai cuisine is particularly renowned, and one of the top dishes to try is Pad Thai, a stir-fried noodle dish with peanuts, tofu and vegetables. Vietnam is home to Pho, a comforting soup made with beef or chicken, rice noodles, and herbs. Japan has sushi, one of the most recognizable foods in the world consisting of fresh raw fish and vinegared rice, while in China, you simply cannot miss experiencing their famous Peking Duck.
Europe
Next up is Europe, where culinary traditions run deep. Italy is a haven for pasta lovers, with dishes like Carbonara and Bolognese gracing menus everywhere. France is synonymous with croissants, cheese, and wine, and you can’t visit the country without sampling these favorsome treats. In Greece, you’ll find traditional dishes like moussaka (a layered dish of eggplant, meat, and potatoes) and spanakopita, a filo pastry filled with spinach and feta cheese.
Africa
Africa is a continent steeped in cultural diversity, and this is reflected in its cuisine. In Ethiopia, injera is a must-eat item. This spongy, sourdough flatbread is used to scoop up flavorful stews known as wat. South African cuisine is a fusion of indigenous and European influences, and Biltong– a type of seasoned dried meat- is a must-try. You can even try, as the locals do, preparing a braai (South African BBQ) where you taste items like boerewors (spicy sausage) or sosaties (kebabs with apricots and curry).
The Americas
We won’t forget south and north America in our journey. Starting in Mexico, we have the beloved taco, a handheld tortilla bursting with fillings like grilled chicken, steak or slow-cooked pork; president Obama even mentioned fondly on record how much he loves tacos too. In Peru, ceviche is a staple dish; this marinated dish typically has fresh seafood with lime, garlic, and chilies, and served with sweet potato and corn. The United States is also famous for some of its food offerings, including hamburgers, hot dogs, and popcorn.
Australia
Last but not least, we travel to the land down under, Australia. The Aussies have an eclectic food scene, and one of the standout dishes is the meat pie. Australian meat pies are revered for their flaky pastry exterior filled with savory beef, or a mixture of vegetables and cheese. Also, fish and chips in Bondi Beach ranks as one the popular beach snacks, while the Barramundi, a particular fish species, is worth having for a wholesome dinner.
From Asia to Australia, Africa to the Americas, our culinary journey around the world has taken us through a range of cuisines and dishes. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, make sure to take the time to explore the food scene and let your taste buds go on their own adventure. Whether it’s savory or sweet, spicy or mild, the best food around the globe is waiting for you to dig in and enjoy.
